Gordon Trucking integrates family values

Author: Elisa Reed

Gordon Trucking, Inc. (GTI) has come a long way from their early days of beer hauling in 1946. Back then, the route ran the suds between Washington cities of Vancouver and Tacoma in one of two trucks belonging to Gordon Fast Freight. Sixty-seven years, a name change, and almost 1900 trucks later, GTI has grown to become the 22nd largest truckload carrier in all of North America that transports across the lower 48 states, Canada, and Mexico.

Their reputation continues to grow stronger in the trucking industry; Gordon Trucking was recently selected with 19 other elite companies as the 2013 Best Fleets to Drive For®. Of course, recognition of a job well done is not a new measure of success for GTI or their drivers. Gordon Trucking and its associates have been honored for safe driving and fleet operation, environmental sustainability efforts, and great workplace experience. Additionally, GTI excels in public service areas as a member of the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency and as a partner with the Washington State Patrol.

The Homeward Bound project was born out of a partnership with WSP in 2006 to keep the faces of missing children visible for recovery efforts.  In addition to monetary donations for an increased number of posters, Gordon Trucking volunteers the side of their trailers as moving displays throughout the states to increase awareness and visibility of missing children from the Northwest. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children create age enhanced photographs of the missing children that are added to the trailers with an original picture and an 800 phone number to report a child that has been spotted. At this time, seven children have been recovered and reunited with their families.

Assisting separated families is just another visible indication of the family values that are at the core of Gordon Trucking’s success. As a family-owned business since its beginning, GTI and the Gordons have extended the feel of family throughout the company, creating a high retention rate of truck drivers, whether they’re owner operators or driving the company’s trucks. Aside from great pay and benefits packages, stability plays a major role in a family environment and Gordon Trucking has been achieving that for many years.
