Trucker Passing a Petro Truck Stop on the HighwayIt’s that time of the year again when all of the radios sing songs of good cheer. But for some truck drivers and their families, this time of year is not a happy soundtrack. Truck drivers who struggle with medical bills all year round have more of a burden during the winter season.

Between higher heating costs and holiday presents for kids, truckers can have it tough. This is where the St. Christoper Truckers Development and Relief Fund comes in. Find out how Petro and TA truck stops supported this fund by raising nearly a quarter of a million dollars.

About the St. Christopher Truckers Fund

The St. Christoper Truckers Development and Relief Fund provides financial assistance for truckers who are out of work due to medical issues. If your medical problem forces you to miss work or you are put on short or long-term disability, then you can qualify for assistance. Company drivers and owner operators can apply for assistance through the organization.

The truck drivers who are approved for assistance receive temporary money to cover rent or mortgage costs, as well as vehicle payments and utilities. To date, 2,400 truck drivers have been approved for this assistance to the tune of over $2.4 million.

Band Together Campaign

Throughout the year, the St. Christoper Truckers Development and Relief Fund raises funds through campaigns. One such campaign that was hosted in 2018 was the Band Together Campaign. This campaign was hosted by the TA and Petro parent company, TravelCenters of America.

At these truck stops nationwide, truck drivers and other truck stop patrons could purchase wristbands, thus the Band Together Campaign. Keychains and window clings with the campaign logo were also available. Everything ranged in price from $1 to $5, raising a total of $244,00 from August 15 to September 30, 2018.

Regarding the Band Together Campaign, President and COO of TravelCenters of America Barry Richards said, “We are always honored to have the opportunity to help drivers in need. We know full well it’s the patronage of our customers and employees, year over year, that assist these efforts. We couldn’t be more proud and thankful to them for their ongoing support.”

Executive Director of the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund Dr. Donna Kennedy said, “I want to give thanks to TravelCenters for another year of Band Together. This campaign is such a great example of how easy it is for people to help people. We always love to see the generosity of drivers and employees.”

All of these funds will go to support the funds account for truck drivers in need. Speaking of the funds, TA and Petro host some type of campaign for the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund each year. And these campaigns are consistently the largest campaign contribution to the fund, which speaks volumes of the support of the truck driver community.
